The Diocesan Youth Ministry Team
Objective and Purpose
The Diocesan Youth Ministry Team works under
the authority of the Bishop of Victoria, through the Office
of Religious Education, in supporting the spiritual formation
of young people, ages 13-18. The Team employs the Comprehensive
Youth Ministry Model, collaborating with existing parish Youth
Ministries, where they exist, and helps promote the establishment
of parish Youth Ministry in parishes where currently none
exists. The Diocesan Youth Ministry Team was established by
the Bishop in 2007, through the work of the Bishop's Advisory
Committee for Youth, and is intended to lay the groundwork
for the eventual establishment of a Diocesan Youth Ministry
Office.
Composition
The Team is composed of eight members with
team members working together on various initiatives, including
setting goals for Diocesan Youth Ministry and supporting existing
parish Youth programmes. Fr. Sean Flynn has been appointed
by the Bishop to offer pastoral guidance. In addition to the
executive positions, Team members head various portfolios
or sub-committees dealing with areas related to the Team's
functioning.
Team Members are volunteers appointed by
the Bishop for terms of up to three years. These terms are
renewable, and will overlap ensuring continuity. Members are
responsible to the Bishop reporting through the Office of
Religious Education. Members meet as needed, based on planning
requirements.
